Within one day we will introduce to you culture, religion and national cuisine of the most outstanding ethnic groups which live here: Russians, Buryats, Old Believers, Cossacks, Evenks.
You need only one day to walk along the historical streets of merchants' town Verkhneudinsk (nowadays Ulan-Ude), to visit Buddhist monastery, Ethnographical museum of Transbaikalian people and the village of Old Believers.

*Ivolginsky monastery is the center of Buddhism in Russia. Nowadays it's also an institute called «Dashi Choikhorling» (from Tibetan language «Lend of happy Teaching»). It's a special place where Buddhist monks, scientist-buddhologists, specialists in Tibetan and Old Mongolian languages are taught.
Ivolginsky monastery keeps a unique relict — the imperishable body of the XII Khambo lama Dashi Dorzho Itigelov who stays in the state of Samadkhi for more than 82 years.
** National Buryat cuisine: salamat, buuza (steamed dumplings), bukhulyor (mutton soup), green tea with milk, shangy (buryat bread).
*** Open air museum. Includes Evenk, Buryat, Cossak, Old Believer complexes. Authentic houses, Gers, domestic utensils, old furniture, national costumes.
**** Historical center of Verkhneudinsk (nowadays Ulan-Ude), merchants' houses of the XVII-XIX centuries, churches and the biggest Lenin's monument in the world.
***** The Old Believers of Buryatia are a colorful branch of Orthodox Russians exiled in Siberia in the XVI century after the church reform carried out by Patriarch Nikon. They managed to save their culture, singing art, religion as they were two centuries ago. Lunch at family, ritual funny games, Old Believers polyphonic songs and a lot of fun! |

During this short and very cognitive tour of Ulan-Ude you will get acquainted with the religion, history and the way of life of Buryat ethnic group. Within one day you will visit the mail Buddhist monastery of Russia, real Buryat village, try traditional Buryat food, see the Ger of the nomad, play folk games, watch the unique collection of Buddhist relicts, walk along the historical streets of merchant town and take picture of the biggest monument to Lenin.

** You have an opportunity to visit an authentic Buryat village and have lunch in a traditional dwelling of nomads — a felted yurt (or Ger). You'll be met by villagers, dressed in national costumes, will be shown the interior of the dwelling and told about the history and traditions of Buryat people by themselves. You'll see both — traditional summer house of Buryat people and a winter house. Besides, you'll also try your hand in traditional cooking and Buryat sports. The folk songs will create an atmosphere of joy and leave a pleasant impressions and good memory about the place.
***The exhibitions «Buddhist art», «Atlas of Tibetan medicine“. The exposition embraces unique pieces of archeology, shamanism, Christianity and Buddhism.
